In October 1810, when Prince Ludwig of Bavaria married Princess Therese of Saxony, there was an after-party that lasted several days.
The event, attended by citizens of Munich, was so successful that they decided to make an annual celebration; thus was born the Oktoberfest, considered today as one of the most important traditional festivals in Germany.
The activity, which over time has become known as the beer festival, has replicas worldwide and Merida is no exception. For 14 years the festival has been held to promote the culture of the European country in a completely family atmosphere.
This time, the party will be held at the Carta Clara Entertainment Center Friday Oct. 14 to Sunday Oct. 16, with the participation of twenty modules promoting beer, German food and desserts.
The announcement of the festival, which is projected to attract seven thousand people, was made Tuesday Oct. 11 at a press conference led by Wolf Kresse Gonzalez, Honorary Consul of Germany and CEO of the Institute Kresse; Jurgen Eggers, director of La Bierhaus; and Alejandro Schirp, owner of Schirp Delicatessen.

They discussed the variety of German beer that will be available to the public, such as Spaten, Becks, Franzishaner, Hofbräu, and Löwenbräu.
At the site there will be booths with sausages, beef and pork meat, hamburgers, schnitzel (breaded meat with potato salad), and other typical dishes including Black Forest, pretzels, Lebkuchenherzen (heart-shaped biscuits) and apple struddle.
The event also includes art events, including the presentation of the German group Gaudi Blosn, puppet show with tales of the Brothers Grimm and a workshop for children to make their own puppet.
For adults will be organized games like rope pulls. “It is not just the beer festival, we give emphasis to a family festival,” said Wolf Kresse González.
Admission is 60 pesos at the door and 50 pesos in presale. Children under 15 are free. Tickets can be purchased at La Bierhaus and Schirp Delicatessen.
Timetable
The Oktoberfest will take place on Friday from 4 pm to midnight. Saturday hours are 12 noon to 12 pm, and Sunday, 12 to 8 pm.
Cultural shows
There will be a booth that will showcase traditional clothing, the history of Germany and a photographic exhibition of the Lübcke family based in Merida.
