PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Q. Roo — Playa del Carmen officials have closed down 15 tourist shops for irregular operations.
A group of inspectors from Dirección de Fiscalización and Cobranza made their rounds along popular Fifth Avenue where they shut down a total of 15 stalls the officials said were selling tours and tourism services without permits.
Each of the businesses were stalls (kiosks) located on the street. Many of the vendors showed special permits they purchased from the previous municipal administrations, but were informed those permits were no longer valid.
All 15 of the closed businesses were fined for operating without a license and will not be allowed to engage in their trade again.
