The project “Ciudad Sustentable Campeche” (Campeche Sustainable City) will be a key point to create a new model of cities throughout the country, which involves the coordinated work of federal branches and local governments.

Notimex reported that Rosario Robles Berlanga, head of the Ministry of the Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu, for its acronym in Spanish), explained the program during her visit to Paris, France, where she participated in the Forum on Green Growth and Sustainable Development.

“We are convinced that this project of Campeche Sustainable City should become an emblematic project; from there we can build a new vision and a new model of city that shows the way to other cities,” she said.

In a bilateral meeting with representatives of the ministries of Housing and Foreign Affairs, International Development and the French Development Agency (AFD, for its acronym in Spanish), she said that the project is a commitment of president Enrique Peña Nieto with French president Francois Hollande.

According to Robles, “Ciudad Sustentable Campeche” is a project of high priority, integral and transversal, involving the coordinated work of several federal branches and local governments.

In this regard, Jorge Wolpert Kuri, director general of Urban Development, Soil and Housing, explained that the project involves private companies in mobility actions, replacement of engines in public transportation and cleaning of the Bay of Campeche.

She said that there has been invested more than 15 million pesos in 2016 and that Campeche is today the city with the largest flow of investment by the Sedatu, thanks to the work done with the French government and state and municipal authorities.
