Gunshots were fired in the air before dawn Wednesday Jan. 25 just a few meters from the US Consulate in Merida, in the colonia Alcalá Martín.

According to information gathered at the scene, the shots were not fired into the offices of the US Consulate, but it was a neighbor who fired 10 shots into the air, around 5:00 am Wednesday.

After firing the shots, the man, who reportedly lives a few meters from the US Consulate,  apparently locked himself in his property.

After a standoff, agents of the SSP and the Prosecutor’s Office arrested the man who allegedly fired at the street from his property in the colony Alcalá Martín.

The capture was also due to the man’s son, who arrived at the site, established a telephone conversation with his father and convinced him not to continue shooting.

Before the arrest there were moments of tension, as the man came out of the house with a gun in his hand. However, the special forces of the SSP and the Prosecutor’s Office in rapid maneuver seized and disarmed him.

The Attorney General of the State collected the gunshell casings as evidence, for the beginning of the investigations.
Meanwhile, elements of the Public Security Secretariat closed the streets around the Consulate.

No injuries were reported.

Neighbors say the man shouted slogans against Donald Trump and that the man was drunk, possibly under the effects of drugs.
