On Tuesday Feb. 7, residents of Quintana Roo suffered another violent day that left at least two people dead, two injured and five detained, in separate tragic events in the tourist destinations of Playa del Carmen, Cancun and Cozumel.
The violent incidents occurred less than a month after the shooting at the Blue Parrot nightclub in Playa del Carmen that left six people dead and at least 15 injured.
Two dead in Playa del Carmen
Several Quintana Roo based media outlets reported that two people died after being hit by gunfire in events that occurred on Tuesday Feb. 7, around 1 pm, at Colonia Ejidal in Playa del Carmen.
The victims were parked outside an Oxxo store on the corner of 115th and 11th avenues, inside a blue Nissan Versa, when they were attacked with gunshots. The occupant of the front passenger seat died on the spot, and the driver died hours later while receiving medical attention at a local hospital.
No arrests in this incident have been reported so far, according to NotiCaribe.
Shooting in Cancun
Two men were struck by gunshots in different parts of Cancun. The first attack was carried out around 8:30 am in Colonia El Trébol, where authorities found a 3.80-calibre used cartridge.
About five hours later, a second subject was shot in Colonia Santa Cecilia. The 26-year-old victim was hit in the right thigh, according to Mexico City based newspaper Reforma.
Cozumel violent events
The usual peace of the island of Cozumel was interrupted once again on Tuesday Feb. 7, after residents of colonia Flamingos reported a shooting, which triggered a police operation with participation of the Mexican Navy personnel.
There were also unofficial reports that accused suspected criminals of attacking a group of police officers and entering a house inside colonia Flamingos, which caused elements of the Group of Special Operations of Public Security and Ministerial Police to raid the place to apprehend the aggressors. Three men and two women were arrested.
