Merida business group launches campaign against corruption

Given the high levels of corruption that prevail in Mexico, it is necessary to say “enough” and encourage a change of mentality, say young Yucatecan entrepreneurs who belong to the Coparmex business group in Mérida, supported by its president, Gustavo Cisneros Buenfil.

Corruption costs the country 347 billion pesos ($17 billion USD) a year, which places Mexico among the most corrupt nations in the world, says Alejandra Pacheco Moreno, president in Merida of the Commission of Young Entrepreneurs of the employers’ organization.

In this context, Coparmex announced yesterday the campaign “I do not give the ‘mordida‘ (bribe)”. Decals will be distributed with that legend and an agreement will be signed with agencies of the three levels of government to commit themselves to combat this social scourge.

According to Inegi data provided by Alejandra Pacheco, 6 out of 10 Mexicans do not report acts of corruption and it is estimated that 99% of the complaints go unpunished.

Cisneros Buenfil stressed that the important thing about this “I do not give the mordida” campaign is to convey to people the message that corruption is not a practice that should be part of life.
