CANCUN — There was chaos in downtown on Tuesday March 14, where one police officer was killed and three more seriously injured in two separate attacks in Cancun.

The first assault occurred at dawn and left one Benito Juarez municipal police officer dead. Pablo Eliseo Ku Uc, age 40, was killed while onboard the 5540 patrol car, at one of the watchpoints on the corner of Sayil and Bonampak avenues, right in front of Plaza Solare shopping center.

Also reported to the 911 emergency number were gunshots on Yaxchilán Avenue, and according to preliminary information from Grupo Sipse, subjects aboard a motorcycle fired gunshots and threw a grenade at a local police vehicle.

In the first attack, gunmen descended from two Suburban trucks and fired at the police officer. The partner of the deceased survived the attack as he walked away from the vehicle just minutes before the assault.

Hours later, another police patrol car circulating on Yaxchilán Avenue was attacked by subjects aboard a motorcycle that seriously wounded a police commander and two other agents. All three were hospitalized at a local IMSS clinic.

Near the patrol, the attackers left a knapsack and a grenade that did not explode.

An hour later, another firefight was reported near Bonampak avenue, on Cazón Street, where gunshots were fired against a private house.
