Marvel Comics gives a tribute to the famous Mexican character Chapulín Colorado in the last issue of the series ‘Champions # 9’ — the comic drawn by Mexican Humberto Ramos and written by Mark Waid — turning it into a superheroine.
This is Red Locust — which would be a translation of ‘Chapulín Colorado’ — a young Mexican-American who lives in San Diego called Fernanda Rodríguez. She does not use the “Chipote Chillón” or the “Chiquitolina pills”, but her special armor allows her to take big leaps.
The announcement was made by the Twitter account of Marvel Comics Mexico. But the creators, Ramos and Waid, had previously spoken — at the La Conque event in the Mexican state of Queretaro — about creating a Mexican character based on an insect or ‘chapulín’.
It also was said that the creators went to speak with Paulina Gómez Fernández, daughter of Roberto Gómez Bolaños (creator of the character), to be able to use some of the characteristics from the Mexican TV hero personified by her father.
It should be added that Humberto Ramos is one of the main drawers of Marvel Comics, and drew for years ‘The Amazing Spiderman’ written by Dan Slott.
