Miami police chief visits Yucatán as part of training mission

He will make a diagnosis focused on training Yucatan’s police agents.

MERIDA — The chief of the Miami Police Department (MPD), Rodolfo Llanes, visited the different areas of Yucatan’s Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) to learn the strengths and areas of opportunity of this agency, with the objective of making a diagnosis focused on future training for the Yucatecan police elements.

The head of the General Secretariat of the Government (SGG), Roberto Rodríguez Asaf, and SSP Ccommander Luis Felipe Saidén Ojeda, welcomed the MPD chief, who began his activities at the Police Monitoring and Intelligence Unit (Umipol), according to El Debate.

While giving a report, the state official thanked the US officials for their willingness to come to Yucatan to convey their experience as well as the knowledge they have accumulated over the years, which will provide Yucatan’s State Police continuance to be one of the most recognized Police Departments in the country with the highest citizen acceptance.

“We have new challenges, fortunately we are not in the situation of other states. We do not want it to get to us, that’s why we work in professionalization and training; we are committed to maintaining trust in people,” said Rodríguez Asaf, in the presence of the General Consul and Chief Officer of the United States of America in Yucatan, David Micó.

Accompanied by Jean Paul Guillot, lieutenant of the Miami Police Department, Chief Llanes welcomed the Yucatecan authorities’ interest in strengthening its police agents, and ensured that their visit is also an opportunity to exchange experiences, including a collaboration aimed to improve the service to the citizens.

By way of introduction, Saidén Ojeda offered a detailed explanation of the areas that make up the SSP, as well as its tasks, which are focused on homeland security, citizen attention and crime prevention. Likewise, he also explained the coordination between state and municipal police elements, along with the use of technologies to make working in the field more efficient.

In the presence of the MPD chief’s private secretary, Jorge Ralph Colina, the commander also addressed the support that the State Government has given to municipal corporations, as well as to the areas that the state partitions on to protect its residents.

During his visit, Rodolfo Llanes became familiar with the operation of the Umipol, where he took into account the attention that was given to the 9-1-1 emergency number, the placement of cameras in strategic areas and the protocols followed to deal with high risk situations.
