PUERTO MORELOS, Q. Roo — Two armed men hijacked a bus bound for Mérida from Cancún, authorities reported. The hijackers beat the driver and robbed the 46 passengers on board.
According to information obtained by Diario de Yucatan, at 10:37 p.m. Sunday, a bus driver from the company “Autobúses de Oriente (ADO)” told police that the vehicle, bus No. 5861, was robbed by two men just after departing from Cancun to Merida.
While giving his testimony, the ADO employee stated that the passengers were threatend by the assailants at gunpoint. Then, the suspects robbed them, but not after firing two warning shots in one of the vehicle’s windows.
Additionally, the 46 passengers had to get off at kilometer 293 of the Cancún-Mérida highway. Fortunately enough, no one suffered injuries, but some of them did have nervous breakdowns. ADO stated that the police arrived at the scene to conduct interviews of the witnesses, including the bus operator.
Federal Ministerial Police arrived there at 11:20 pm and the bus withdrew from the place at 12:23 am. According to the official bulletin, authorities are already carrying out investigations.

The bus drivers would´ve stopped had there been a road block.
