RIVIERA MAYA, Q. Roo – “The most modern lighthouse and sky-view point at Xel-há Ecotourism Park is currently under process of certification before the Mexican Captaincy of Ports”, said Emma Dietz, Xel-Ha’s operational manager.

In an interview with Notimex, Dietz explained: “The lighthouse is the first attraction of its kind nationwide; featuring a double function: as a maritime navigation visual reference for ships sailing in the Mexican Caribbean, and as a tourist attraction and ride that allows visitors to appreciate the beautiful landscape, admire nature from above and then slide down at full speed, experiencing a shot of adrenaline for the more audacious”.

As part of the process, it will be registered as a lighthouse with the proper location coordinates in international charts.

This past weekend, “El Faro” started operating in the Xel-Ha Ecotourism Park in the Riviera Maya. This unique attraction’s opening meant an investment of $43 million pesos ($2.4 million USD) by Xcaret Experiences.

Emma Dietz continued: “One of the oldest lighthouses in Mexico is located in Quintana Roo, a few meters away from the new one; and it was used by Tulum Maya natives, literally for thousands of years”.

The new lighthouse’s features are: 43 meters of height, it’s a unique place where you can admire spectacular landscapes and you also can drop in one of the four water slides leading to a cenote!

Finally, she explained that to get to the top you have to climb 81 stone steps and 84 metal steps.
