Xcalachén Chicharra Festival to repeat in 2017

According to information obtained from El Diario de Yucatán newspaper, Mayor Mauricio Vila Dosal announced that due to the tremendous success the first edition of the Xcalachén Chicharra Festival, an initiative was proposed to institutionalize this festival so that this event is held twice a year, starting in 2017. Thus, more families and visitors could appreciate the culinary traditions of southern Merida.

The Xcalachén Chicharra Festival began as an idea from area residents, authorities and private sectors to rescue and promote the traditions and economy of the families from the zone.

Vila Dosal made the aforementioned announcement at the closing ceremony, while handing out awards to the chicharroneros who participated in the festival, which was held this past July 1st. More than 10 thousand yucatecans attended this event and more than a ton of chicharra was sold.

The general coordinator of Community and Social Policy, Victor Hugo Lozano Poveda, reported that the Department of Economic Development and Tourism is already working on fine-tuning details for the organization of the second edition, which is planned to take place in late-2017. Such readjustments are being made in various aspects of the festival, as they want the attendees to have a faster access to the dishes that will be offered there, as well as well-equipped eating area.
