CANCUN — In Isla Blanca, at least 12 people were injured due to a collapse at Hotel Palladium Tuesday morning, August 22, reports “La verdad noticias”.
Around 8:00 am, a structure collapsed inside the facilities of the Hotel Palladium located in Isla Blanca, injuring more than 12 people, most of them construction workers. The injured were taken to the IMSS Hospital on Coba Avenue in Cancun.
This accident was immediately reported to the 911 emergency number, and was allegedly caused by the strong winds and rains this morning.
Witnesses said that around 8:45 am, they heard a strong sound from the upper part of the building number 4 at Hotel Palladium, so they immediately asked for the support of the Red Cross to carry out the rescue work.
Firefighters, Red Cross paramedics and some workers in the hotel carried out the rescue work and helped their colleagues to be taken to some hospitals in the city of Cancun.
The facilities are closed and so far it is unknown if there could be any people dead.
Several workers were sent back to their homes, because it is believed that the work may be closed, as some of them lacked the necessary protection to carry out the corresponding work.
Finally, media is not allowed to enter in the area, which is cordoned off by hotel security personnel.
