On Sept. 19, the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City posted the following message on its website:
Regarding the Earthquake in Mexico
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Mexico affected by today’s 7.1-magnitude earthquake and other recent natural disasters. We stand ready to provide assistance should our neighbors request our help. Our embassy in Mexico City has sent out public messages to U.S. citizens in Mexico, and the embassy stands ready to provide consular assistance to any U.S. citizens who may have been affected. We offer our condolences to any who were injured or lost loved ones.”
The U.S. Embassy alerts U.S. citizens residing or traveling in Mexico that a 7.1 earthquake occurred in Mexico that has affected Mexico City, the state of Puebla, and other outlying areas. The epicenter was located near the Puebla state town of Raboso, about 76 miles southeast of Mexico City. Some areas may be affected by power outages and the extent of damage is not yet known. There may be disruptions to other forms of transportation and services in the affected area.
