Local police have installed preventive security checkpoints in municipalities of the southern and eastern areas of Yucatan due to the recent acts of violence and assaults in Quintana Roo.

YUCATAN — Faced with the wave of violence unleashed in the neighboring state of Quintana Roo, local police departments have installed preventive checkpoints in the municipalities of the south and east of Yucatan that border Quintana Roo.

The state delegate of the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), Rubén Valdez Ceh, reported that the measure was adopted after last Saturday when an employee of the company Kekén was assaulted and shot by two individuals in the police station of Xaya, Tekax in the south of the state.

He stated that security checkpoints are currently coordinated with the police authorities of the different orders of government in Yucatan to prevent the arrival of criminals from the neighboring state where recent acts of violence and assaults have occurred.

The official said that the proximity between Yucatan and Quintana Roo generates “propitious spaces” for people, mostly outsiders, to seek to commit crime in the area and neighboring places.

Security and reinforcement checks in Yucatan were carried out between the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) and the Federal Police.

The intention of the rings or security checks on the state border will be to seek to maintain security and social peace in Yucatan.

The current situation of insecurity in Quintana Roo forced us to take such measures, said Valdéz Céh.
