The retail giant will allocate $950 million pesos ($52 million USD) for its new Distribution Center in Kanasín….

MERIDA — Walmart of Mexico and Central America announced that it will expand the investment destined to the construction of its new Distribution Center (Cedis) in Yucatan to $950 million pesos ($52 million USD), which represents an increase of approximately 50% of the original amount, which was $650 million pesos ($35.6 million USD).

Since last July, the international firm has shown interest in choosing Yucatan to host its 14th Cedis in the country, a decision that took into account the security, connectivity, qualified human resources and legal certainty offered by the state.

At first, this Cedis was considered a strategic point for the region along with that of Villahermosa, but this new injection of resources will make it the most important in the Southeast of Mexico, with the same impact as that of Nuevo León, which not only provides services to that entity but also to Chihuahua, Coahuila, Tamaulipas, Durango and San Luis Potosí.

This new center will begin operations in 2019, and the company will also increase its logistical and operational capabilities with a regional, mainland and international reach, as its supply network will reach 95 stores in Yucatan, Campeche, Quintana Roo and several Central American countries.

In this way, it will be possible to transport the goods more efficiently to the points of sale and optimize the inventory. In addition, the firm calls for the participation of Yucatecan suppliers in its processes, which will boost local production.

Under the original scheme, it was estimated that the Cedis would generate 750 jobs, but with the increase in investment, this figure could increase 30%, that is, there would be a thousand new vacancies for various professional profiles.

It should be noted that the facility will operate with automated processes, which will require the hiring of qualified personnel to ensure its correct functioning, such as logistics and production engineers, mechatronics, robotics and other specialties in the industry.
