MERIDA — Due to the intense rainfall that is expected in the region, the State Civil Protection Unit (Procivy) urges people to take with them umbrellas or raincoats, wear closed shoes with rubber soles to prevent accidents and take special care with children, seniors and people with disabilities.
These recommendations are issued due to the fact that in the next two days unstable weather conditions are expected with an increase in rainfall potential, such as the effect of the cold front number 5 that will extend over the Gulf of Mexico, according to the National Water Commission (Conagua) in its most recent meteorological report.

Yucatan’s forecast calls for an 80% chance of storms with strong wind gusts of 15 to 30 Km/h (9 to 18 miles per hour) that could exceed 50 Km/h (31 Miles per hour). In addition, the outlook is for very hot conditions with maximum temperatures of 35 to 40°C (95 to 104°F).
It is recommended to keep drainage grids free of garbage to avoid water-logging and not to shelter under trees, because these attract the lightning. Also, it is suggested to keep away from poles, lights or cables.

It is also preferable not to run or walk on flooded streets and also drive slowly and carefully, with the car lights on and using the seat belts. In the same way, it is really important to take precautions in the presence of the winds and to secure objects that can fall.
In case of an incident, Procivy urges using the number 9-1-1 to report any emergency.
