Ready to race? Try Yucatan’s “Carrera de la Naranja”

OXKUTZCAB, Yuc. — A popular feature of the traditional Oxkutzcab Fair, the third edition of “The Great Orange Race 2017” will be held on December 10, along 10 kilometers and starting from the Caves of Lol-tún.

The starting gun will crack at 7 a.m., and the participation of 200 runners is expected. The delivery of race kits that include number, medal of participation and commemorative shirt, will be held on December 9 at the “General Salvador Alvarado” Stadium in Merida

Pablo Enrique Cerón Viana, Merida sports councilor, stated that the objective of the event is to promote athletics in the community, especially among students. The project has limited space to manage a good organization and realization of the competition.

The competitors will visit some of the main streets of Oxkutzcab and will have as their finish line the Oxkutzcab City Hall. Besides each one will be able to know the beautiful landscapes of the municipality where cultivation of orange crops is a main livlihood.

The competition will have a prize pool of 40 thousand pesos, distributed among the open, master, veterans and veterans plus categories. In addition there will be a special bonus of one thousand pesos for the Yucatecan who wins the first general place of the competition.

He stressed that in the morning of Sunday December 10 there will be transportation from the facilities of the Yucatan’s Institute of Sport (Idey), in front the Salvador Alvadado Stadium in Merida, to the Start line of the race.
