After receiving green light in committees, the controversial proposed bill still has to be voted by senators…
MERIDA – Coparmex Mérida and a group of activists and political analysts in Yucatan called on the Senate of the Republic to address the demands and concerns of society on the initiative of the Law of Homeland Security that could be approved this week.
In both positions, they ask for legal certainty, unrestricted respect for human rights and transparency in the public safety function to be guaranteed.
The activists ask the three Yucatecan senators – Angélica Araujo Lara (PRI), Daniel Ávila Ruiz and Rosa Adriana Díaz Lizama (PAN) to vote against this initiative, which has caused “severe concerns” among human rights organizations, such as the Office in Mexico of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Amnesty International, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the National Commission of the same institution.
Despite the protests, the controversial law was approved in committees and on Wednesday December 13, at night the full Senate gave the first reading of the proposal. The analysis is currently under revision by the whole senate in Mexico City.
