TIZIMÍN.- The Feria Ganadera, Comercial y Artesanal de Tizimin (Livestock, Commercial and Crafts Fair) which came to and end on Sunday January 21 after three weeks of activities, exceeded by far the expectations of the Fair Organization Committee.
The mild weather favoured the vendors at the Expo Fair, since it allowed many visitors to attend, both Tizimileños and tourists from all over Mexico and the rest of the world.
Among the most concurred activities were the horse races and the competition of dancing horses, which had a great number of attendees.
In spite there was a brief drizzle, people used the canopies on the commercial area as shelter, and the situation ended up in an improvised auction of blankets, jackets, shoes and other products for the benefit of the local vendors.
Besides, a lot of pilgrims arrived to the parish of the Santos Reyes on Sunday Jan. 21, despite the fact that the images of the saints had been put back to their niches since Saturday Jan. 20. Merchants of “veladora” candles, “rudas” and “milagritos” continued with their sale in the atrium of the church as they were allowed to stay a few more days, and they finally removed their booths and stalls on Monday Jan. 22.
According to Abelardo Osorio Pacheco, administrator of the Fair Committee, this year’s festivity exceeded all expectations, as they had not imagined that such a large number of visitors would arrive. He estimated that one million people attended the popular fair this year.
He also said that the fair is dedicated to the devotion of the Santos Reyes, and that they are the main attraction for local, national and foreign tourism that come to Tizimin.
He added that this year the fair was consolidated as one of the best in Southeast Mexico and that the atmosphere of security, but mostly of joy and fun was really impressive.
Osorio Pacheco thanked the Tizimileños for having proven to be excellent hosts, showing that particular warmth and kindness that characterize the people of the Eastern Pearl (La Perla de Oriente), as this city is known.
