Wednesday February 7th was a good day for the people of Progreso, Yucatán; because, as scheduled, the cruise ships “Vision of the Seas” and “Carnival Fantasy” arrived from the United States, carrying a total of 4,375 passengers, including some “sprinbreakers” among them… the first of the season.
The “Vision of the Seas” had 2,140 passengers onboard, while the “Carnival Fantasy” carried 2,235.
Of the 4,375 travelers, about 1,500 descended in the port of Progreso, according to local businessmen, merchants and service providers, who considered that the day was good, since the passengers bought handicrafts in the market and shops around it, and many of them went for food and drinks on the boardwalk, where they also occupied palapas and lounge chairs.
The good weather allowed the passengers to take a dip in the ocean, ride on bananas, wave runners and jet skis.
A large group of tourists took the tour to the mangrove area to watch the flamingos, while others went to the archaeological site of Dzibichaltun and a few hundreds more came to Merida.
In fact, one of the passengers, 21-year-old Heather White, who was traveling aboard the “Vision of the Seas” had a Mexican-style bachelorette party on the beach of Progreso, where she and her friends enjoyed a few shots of tequila, exotic cocktails and played some games.
