Andrés Manuel López Obrador, presidential candidate for the Juntos Haremos Historia coalition (Morena-PT-PES), took a private plane to fly from Mexicali BC, to Nogales Sonora, after an official campaign event in San Luis Río Colorado.

At the last Assembly of the American Chamber, the three-time presidential candidate told journalist Adriana Pérez Cañedo, from Canal 11, that in case of winning the election, he would not use the presidential plane and would take commercial flights instead, even when attending important international meetings.

In a video that the presidential candidate uploaded to his social network platforms, he can be seen in the company of Marcelo Ebrard, his campaign coordinator, and Alfonso Durazo, MORENA’s Senate candidate for the state of Sonora.

“As you can see, not even Donald Trump has a plane like this, but we will not sell it because it is not ours,” AMLO said while joking in the video. And then he said that if he wins the election on July 1, “he will sell the other presidential plane.”

“The one that costs 75 million dollars, that one I will never use at all,” he added.

It is worth mentioning that the plane used by AMLO is an air taxi with a cost of approximately 10 thousand pesos, and he decided to make use of it in order to make it on time to a rally in Nogales.

The sale of the presidential plane, as well as the rejection of any means of private transportation, is part of the austerity policy that AMLO touts, if he wins the elections of 2018, which includes turning the official presidential residence of Los Pinos into a cultural center.

AMLO also promised the elimination of presidential pensions of up to five million pesos a month; to put the General Staff at the service of the Secretariat of National Defense and turn the 118 helicopters of the Executive into aerial ambulances.
