On May 6, Ernesto Herrera Novelo, State Secretary of Economic Development (SEFOE), announced that President Enrique Peña Nieto will inaugurate the Valladolid Airport Freight Center (CCAV) in the coming days.

“This is a presidential commitment, the airport is ready to be officially inaugurated by President Peña Nieto and Governor Rolando Zapata Bello, now we just depend on the president’s agenda,” Herrera Novelo stated.

The Secretary of Economic Development recalled that the works consisted in the construction of warehouses, cold rooms, transportation and logistics facilities, rehabilitation of the runway, installation of a new lighting system and modernization of the services in the control tower to increase security.

“Everything is following an appropriate process, and about 50 million pesos of federal and state resources have been invested in the project so far. The names and number of airlines that will start operations in this airport is yet to be determined though”, Herrera Novelo continued.

“There is a contract, and it is public, in which it has been stated that the operation Chichén Itzá airport was granted to Grupo Ciclo, presided by Yucatecan businessman José Antonio Loret de Mola Gomory, a company that will be responsible for its administration and management. The airport is part of a parastatal named Chichén Itzá Air Services, and the administration is in charge of Grupo Ciclo, ” added the Secretary of Economic Development.

The State Government reported at the time that after the corresponding analysis, it was determined to sign a contract with a specialized company such as Grupo Ciclo, to ensure that an asset as important as the Chichén Itzá Airport is in operation and generating income in order to improve the economy of Yucatán.
