Companies specialized in research and technological development in Yucatan report a strong annual income of more than 40 million pesos (2.1 million USD), mainly from the national market, according to a report from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi). According to Inegi’s Survey on Research and Technological Development (Esidet), Yucatan has an important sector of companies that develop research and technology in a wide range of products and services.
The study, issued in 2014, but updated in June 2018, reveals that there are 1,251 companies in the state, of which 81 are businesses that belong to a corporation or a larger firm’s division, and the remaining 1.170 are local companies.
From 2012 to 2014, the number of companies in this branch went from 960 to 1,251; with an increase in the number of workers, from 72,000 to more than 94,000 employees.
It should be noted that the study presented by Inegi focuses exclusively on companies that aim to generate an innovation product or service to improve processes, quality or product characteristics.
In this regard, firms from all sectors stand out, such as the automotive industry, services such as hotels and tourism, and the development of plastic products, among others related to the development of ideas.
Of the total of companies with presence in the state, 37 count with foreign capital, and therefore, share a partnership with transnational firms.
Of the 40 million pesos that these companies invoice annually, more than three million pesos are the product of satisfying demands of products or services for the foreign market, indicates the Inegi study.
