The Bernardini Gallery, with presence in Monterrey, Mexico City, Puebla and Oaxaca, opened its new branch in Merida today Friday, September 7.
Located on Calle 60, in front of the church of Santa Ana, the Bernardini Gallery has a catalog of more than 50 artists, including David Alfaro Siqueiros, Rufino Tamayo, José Clemente Orozco, Leonora Carrington, Manuel Felguerez, Pedro Friedeberg and Gilberto Pérez Navarro.
There are also works by Israel Montes, Rolando Rojas, Francisco Toledo, Sergio Hernandez, Fulgencio Lazo, Fitzia Mendialdua, Mgada Torres Gurza, Lucio Santiago, Feliciano Béjar, Carlos Oviedo, Carlos Agustín, Jorge “Roy” Sobrino, Sebastián and Rafael Coronel, the gallery will allow the public to admire about ten works Rafael Coronel currently on display.
“There are paintings, sculptures, graphics (serigraphy, engraving, lithography, woodcut, linoleum). There are works from $ 2,000 to more than one million or two million pesos, “said Diego Bernardini Borja, owner of the place.
In an interview with the newspaper, Bernardini Borja indicated that Mérida spaked their attention because it is a growing market. “We see that there is a lot of economy, there is culture and the people value art very much,” he said, noting that Mérida is the sixth gallery they open nationwide and that they want to have ten in the country and then open other branches abroad.
In addition, in the state there are many new houses, residences, apartments and buildings that are being built. “We see many potential clients all over the state”, he continued.
Bernardini said that acquiring a work of art is an investment. “But it is also a need to cover the spaces on the walls, because there are studios where one can be in a better mood and more motivated seeing a cheerful, colorful and beautiful work that if you do not see anything or only see something dark, black or sad” .
Also, buying a painting is a bearer check, because when an artist passes away, the demand for their work (and the price) increases considerably). “That surplus value today is available in our gallery.”
World power
He considered that globally, Mexico is a world power in quality and quantity of artists. “If we could, we should export the art that we promote; I think if we took it to Asia or Europe we could sell it for double or quadruple,” the gallery owner said
Two auctions are planned as part of the gallery strategy (one for April or May and another in October or November) for the benefit of a foundation or association yet to be announced.
The opening took place at 8 p.m. and artist Jorge “Roy” Sobrino, as well as Mario and Enrique Ancona Teigell, honorary consul of France and president of the patronage of the Historical Center, respectively, cut the inaugural ribbon.
The gallery will open its doors from Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (in summer), and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (in winter). The address is calle 60 No. 409 between 45 and 47, local 2, Santa Ana, Mérida, Yuc.
