Dia de la Independencia or “El Grito”, The Cry or “Call” (for insurrection) will be celebrated all over Mexico and especially in Cancun, among other major cities on Sunday, September 16, 2018.
The director of the Tourist Police in Benito Juárez (Cancun), Carlos Bustos Alvarez detailed the operation that will be carried out in the hotel zone of Cancun to protect the integrity of visitors and locals.
He said that there will be many places where the celebration of Mexican Independence will take place, many of them will feature live mariachi music, so the authority job is to ensure that all activities run smoothly.
He explained that the Tourist Police will work in coordination with the other police agencies for a better surveillance; in addition to monitoring the streets of Cancun and specially Boulevard Kukulcán, where drivers are recommended to drive carefully, and of course, don’t drink and drive.
If you’re in Cancun, you could be in for a treat that includes fiestas and fireworks as the Mexican people celebrate their Independence Day with enthusiasm.
Plan your weekend, and you’ll be in for two days of long celebrations, but “Día del Grito” on the 15th, reaches its peak at 11 PM when the the El Grito is sounded. In Mexico City, the El Grito commences at 11 PM, the night before the 16th of September.
