About thirty Yucatecans experienced what it is to eat the dishes of their region in Asia during a visit to the restaurant María Bonita in Dubai, where chef Ernesto Cab Vera, who is originally from Mérida, is the owner and general manager.

The visit to Maria Bonita was made in recent days at the initiative of the tourists themselves, who knew chef Cab Vera who has been a resident for Dubai for seven years now.

The diners were members of the group of 65 participants in the trip to the Middle East organized by a local travel agency, with Jorge Martinez and Carlos Mercado as tour guides.

María Bonita restaurant and Chef Cab Vera had a recent appearance in an episode of the “Mexicanos por el mundo” Gourmet channel TV show.

On the night of their arrival in Dubai, on Wednesday Sep. 19th, the travelers went to the restaurant, where they were served salbutes and empanadas with red onion and habanero pepper salsa. The main course was tacos de carne al pastor and roasted in corn tortillas and horchata, jamaica and tamarindo to wash down the tacos.

For dessert there was coffee, conchas and churros, prepared by the ticuleño Jorge Pino, also based in Dubai. The dinner ended with the tasting of a cake of three milks to celebrate in advance the birthday of tour operator Jorge Martinez.

The evening brought surprises and coincidences, such as the presence in the group of a former high school teacher of chef Ernesto Cab and a doctor who treated the father of chef Jorge Pino.

The seven-day excursion to the Middle East included a photographic  safari and tours of the main attractions of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, such as the Burj Khalifa tower, the White Mosque and Ferrari World.
