In an interview with La Verdad, Miguel Francisco Escalante Marfil declared that he does not have a college diploma, but his career in graphic design and graphic arts is based on constant preparation, self-management, and natural inspiration.

Did you just win a regional contest?

Yes, a major brewing company launched a call in which I participated along with many other young designers and my design was the winner, I won an economic prize. The most important thing that this experience leaves me is the recognition to my work.

What is design about, what does it mean?

It is the union of different Maya symbols: the hummingbird, the jaguar, the t’oh bird and the X’tabay, as we know each of these icons give identity to the Maya culture and I was able to capture them in a single engraving.

Where will we see this design?

It is embodied in the cans of a special edition of Montejo beer, which will be the image at the Xmatkuil Fair in Mérida that will be celebrated this year, from November 9 to December 2, with a duration of 24 days.

After this important award, what is next?

With the cash prize that I will receive, I am going to finance another project that I have in the making, and this deals with the animation and visual creation of the legends of Yucatan, which are designed to be reproduced on platforms such as Youtube. I’m going to produce these animations, and in February they will be available to the public on these online platforms. With these legends I seek to preserve part of our culture, and allow the new generations to know the popular culture that identifies us here in Yucatan.
