The mayor of Guanajuato, Alejandro Saldaña, wants tourists who visit the state capital to spend more money as many of them only arrive at the city, bring their own food, and don’t spend one single peso during their visit, which according to Saldaña, translates into an important economic loss for the municipality.
During an interview with local media, Saldaña affirmed that “everyone is welcome to Guanajuato, but we want a visitor with a higher profile, we want the type of tourist that can leave a much greater economic impact, that can enter the museums, buy handcrafts, eat in a restaurant”, said the mayor of Guanajuato.
These controversial statements have generated a lot of memes in social networks:

MEANWHILE IN DUBAI… “ONE DAY I WILL BE ABLE TO AFFORD A TRIP TO GUANAJUATO”

One would think the Yucatan Times would know about Mexican apellidos. The mayor of Guanajuato is Alejandro Navarro Saldaña. Like most Mexicans, he uses two last names: Navarro and Saldaña. The proper way to refer to him in an article such as this is to use either both last names or just the first one. That is, either “Navarro Saldaña” or just “Navarro.”
