Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Maritime authorities say that a boat sailing from Florida to Quintana Roo has sunk off the coast of Isla Mujeres.

The yacht was owned by a Yucatan merchant who was on board at the time. Reports say that the captain and one sailor requested assistance and were rescued before the yacht sunk completely.

The yacht, which is US licensed, is currently lying on the seabed. According to specialists, a rescue will be difficult, however, maritime authorities of Quintana Roo and the United States are working on trying to recover the boat.

According to Lopez Doriga.com, the yacht was owned by the family of Yucatecan entrepreneurs Roche Diaz, and it sank as it hit a large plank of wood that was floating in the sea
