With the aim of increasing the air connectivity of Yucatan with various international destinations, which can enhance and attract greater influx of visitors to the state, the State Government, through the Secretariat of Tourism Development (Sefotur), participated in Routes America 2019 , one of the most important aviation fairs in the world.
It is an essential part for the promotion of the land of the Mayab during this important event, which took place in Quebec, Canada, from February 12 to 14, which summoned the main airlines, airports and tourist destinations in Latin America.
This year’s Routes America concentrated 61 airlines from around the world that operate in the Americas, with representatives from 171 airports and tourist destinations, such as Grupo Aeroportuario de Sureste (ASUR), which in coordination with Sefotur, held more than 20 work meetings.
Among the companies that could bring new flights to the Yucatan Peninsula are Southwest Airlines, InterJet, UA, Aeromar, Avianca, Viva Aerobus, Sunwing Airlines, Westjet, Copa Airlines, American, TAR, JetBlue Airways and Plus Ultra.
In this regard, Fridman Hirsch mentioned that these actions respond to the guidelines instructed by governor Vila Dosal, with the purpose of increasing the international air connectivity of the Yucatan.
Sefotur participated in this important forum that brought together the leaders of the airline industry, from which positive results emerged in this segment of tourism, which will be announced in time, and which have the purpose of strengthening and generating beter air connectivity.
Sefotur representatives participated in various news forums of the aviation industry and met with the tourist offices of the province of Quebéc and its different ports, to strengthen the ties between our territory and such an important city in Canada.
Ever since Mauricio Vila took office, three new flights were inaugurated with destinations to León, Villahermosa and Toronto, in addition to the four routes that will begin to operate next March, to Hermosillo, Chihuahua , Oaxaca and Tijuana, operated by the Mexican airline Volaris.
Last year, the International Airport of Mérida achieved the record figure of 2.4 million passengers, both entry and exit, which meant a growth of 14.11 percent in comparison with 2017.
Also in that year, the air terminal of the Yucatecan capital received 195 weekly domestic flights, with 16 of them international, for a total of 30,346 arrival seats.
