CHETUMAL, March 24th – With an investment of 147 million pesos committed for this year, the expansion and modernization of this city’s International Airport will continue, according to Governor Carlos Joaquin. Since the beginning of his administration, Carlos Joaquin has taken the necessary steps to open new routes to reach new investments and achieve diversification and economic detonation in the south of the entity as the opening of the air route Chetumal-Guadalajara.
“We work to position the entity as one of the five economic powers of the country by encouraging investment and the opening of new businesses, which strengthen the state as a generator of more and better jobs for people,” said Governor Carlos Joaquin. Through the Secretariat of Economic Development in charge of Rosa Elena Lozano Vazquez, efforts were made for the comprehensive remodeling of the airport, which, according to a report from Airports and Auxiliary Services (ASA) during the first two months of this year, had a growth of 2.1 percent in the flow of passengers and more than 300 percent in cargo.
These statistics are the result of promotional work to have more air connectivity and promote destinations such as Mahahual, Bacalar and Chetumal, part of the Mexican Caribbean that stands out for its natural beauty, of which the people of Quintana Roo are proud and for which they fight to make it enduring.
The leader of the Association of Hotels of the Center and South of Quintana Roo Deborah Angulo Villanueva indicated that the increase in the airport flow has had a positive impact in the hotel occupancy of Bacalar, Mahahual and Chetumal.
The hotel leader added that the state capital scored two points in hotel occupancy thanks to the Guadalajara-Chetumal flight, which, in turn, provides ease of flights to the south for Easter. As part of the coordinated work between government and society for the modernization of the airport, was created the Special Council for the Modernization of Chetumal International Airport, chaired by Rosa Elena Lozano, which has the participation of businessmen such as Noemi Canto de Conde.
