This is how the heat wave affecting Europe is “seen” from space

The European Space Agency presented an animation showing the magnitude of the heat wave hitting Europe.

In a statement, the agency explained that the radiometer measures the amount of energy radiated by the Earth, so the map illustrates the actual temperature of the Earth’s surface.

In Europe, high temperatures have peaked at 39 to 45 degrees Celsius in recent weeks.

In the last few weeks, the Earth’s surface temperatures have reached maximum levels of 39 to 45 degrees Celsius, in the last few weeks, as measured by the Copernicus Sentinel-3 radiometer on 26 June and 25 July 2019.

High temperatures are expected to peak today, reaching as high as 39—40°C, with Netherlands, Belgium and Germany recording their highest ever temperatures.
