Traveling Europe in the autumn might not be a first choice for those who want a trip where they can bask in the sun and enjoy warmer, tropical temperatures, but there’s a lot to be said for visiting some of Europe’s top destinations in the off-peak months.

Despite the cooler weather, there’s still plenty of attractions to see and activities to take part in, and many parts of Europe enjoy balmy temperatures further into the autumn months with certain destinations like the Canary Islands offering warm weather all year round, so no need to miss out on getting a tan if you don’t want to.

There are many benefits to traveling in Europe during autumn, with prices for flights and accommodation often dropping due to lower demand, plus less crowds in areas that’d usually be packed to the brim with tourists making for a more enjoyable and relaxing trip. So, which destinations are the best choices?

Scotland:
If you’re not fussed about warm temperatures and want to make the most of the season by basking in some autumnal glory then Scotland is an ideal destination. Some great choices for stunning autumn scenery include the Highlands and Islands, and Perthshire, which is often known as Big Trees Country and is up there with some of the most glorious places on the continent when it comes to stunning autumnal colors and gorgeous natural beauty.

Get back in touch with nature and explore beautiful lochs and rivers adorned with amazing copper and gold tinged, tree-covered hillsides, which make it an ideal place for capturing awesome photographs.

Budapest:
The capital city of Hungary is one of those destinations that’s an ideal place to visit all year round. During the autumn, you can still find plenty to do in this popular city break location and it’s the time of year where the locals celebrate plenty of annual festivals for national food and drinks plus more, making it the perfect time of year for keen foodies to visit.

Although many of the tourists will have left until next year, there are plenty of cozy cafes to explore and less crowds mean its’ easier and faster to see attractions like Buda Castle and Castle Hill, the Parliament Building and Crown Jewels, Fisherman’s Bastion, St. Peter’s Basilica, and Matthias Church. And, the famous thermal baths are open and warm all year round. No matter what the weather is like you can find a wide range of stunning attractions to visit, with stupendous architecture to admire like the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, Les Invalides, the Pantheon, the Picasso Museum and of course the Eiffel Tower. Many of the buildings in Paris house museums or are open to the public, making it a great destination choice for overcast days with plenty of interesting places to take cover.

Start planning your trip to France now; there are many other destinations you may wish to consider in this beautiful country such as Burgundy, Provence, and Brittany, which all boast stunning views during this season. The Burgundy vineyards in particular are a must-visit, and during the autumn there’s a real buzz around the villages as the harvest gets underway and excitement builds in anticipation of the November wine auctions.
