There is a pool in the Historic Center of Merida that every Yucatecan would like to see full of water sometime.
In the middle of a small commercial complex right in the heart of downtown Merida, there is a pool, which has been empty for years, but the people of Mérida is always hoping to see it full of water one of these days.
Once one of the most emblematic (now underrated) places in Mérida, is this small photographic studio located on Calle 61, between 56 and 54 of the Historic Center.
In this place photographs of all kinds are sold at cheap prices and it used to be famous back in the days when there were no smartphones, people used to go there to develop and enlarge their photographs the old fashion way (and some people who still use analog photographic equipment, keep going there for that purpose).
But what most attracts the attention of visitors, while they wait for their photographs to be delivered, is a huge empty pool, so people have always wondered if one day it will be filled (it has been empty for decades, according to locals).
The photograph of the Facebook user has more than three thousand shares and the success of the publication is due to the fact that many a Meridano has had exactly the same thought: “when are they planning to fill this pool up?“.
“I live with the illusion of one day coming for my photos and that the pool is full,” reads Rubi’s publication, a thought that thousands of people in Mérida apparently share.
Although many have visited this place, nobody really knows who built the pool, if it belonged to a house or why they simply do not fill it…
