Yucatecan products manufactured and produced at small rural communitiets will be on the shelves of the Soriana supermarkets for one month, in some type of test, to see if there is enough demand to start selling them on a permanent basis.
Luis Mejía, director of the Pyme Program of Soriana, announced the “Yucatecan Products Fair” that just started at Soriana’s Merida branches Canek, Calle 128, Sendero, Altabrisa, Gran Plaza and Balcones.
Soriana is currently showcasing 55 local suppliers with a mix of 332 different products, which will be on shelves until Monday, September 16th.
The last fair of this kind was held back in 2014, it featured half that many producers and took place only in three Soriana stores.
This fair, organized with the collaboration of the State Secretariat of Economic Development and Labor, is an opportunity for small businesses to be promoted at no charge, since Soriana offers them shelf space for free.
Suppliers were selected for their product’s quality, labeling and economic viability.
The local offer will include coffee, whole-grain biscuits, table chocolate, juices, sweeteners, sauces, honey, sprouted alfalfa, wooden souvenirs, t-shirts, puzzles, snacks and spirits, as well as mixers for beer, sandals, books, organic fertilizers, frozen popsicles, pens and eco-friendly garbage bags and drinking straws.
Some of the products have potential to be distributed in Soriana’s stores nationwide, the store executive said.
