The Yucatan Symphony Orchestra (OSY) will open its XXXII Season with the return of Yucatecan guitarist Cecilio Perera and a great repertoire of works by nationalist and contemporary authors: José Pablo Moncayo, Arturo Márquez, Alejandro Basulto and Javier Álvarez.
The director of the OSY, Juan Carlos Lomónaco; the head of the Guarantor Trust of the OSY, Miguel Escobedo, and the president of the board, Margarita Molina, welcomed the distinguished performer, who will premiere Jig Variations in Yucatan, guitar and orchestra concert by Yucatecan Alejandro Basulto.
The opening program of the September-December 2019 season will alternate the contemporary and nationalist styles, said Maestro Lomónaco regarding the initial concerts of the OSY scheduled for this Friday Sep. 6 at 9 p.m. and Sunday Sep. 8, at 12 p.m. in the Peón Contreras Theater.

The program includes two orchestration jewels, Sinfonietta and Huapango, with the author’s signature of José Pablo Moncayo, recognized as one of the greatest exponents of Mexican musical nationalism, in addition to Danzón No. 8 by Arturo Márquez, Jig variations for Alejandro’s guitar and orchestra, and “Y la Máquina va” from Javier Álvarez.
Lomónaco highlighted the repertoire, since in addition to the works of the famous Moncayo, the OSY will accommodate three Mexican composers who enjoy a great reputation in concert music, since their works have been played in the country and by orchestras all over the world, in addition to receiving international awards and prizes.
