In order to offer more and better spaces for the development of the student community,  the library of the Polytechnic University of Yucatan (UPY), will be built next year, announced the rector Gildardo Sánchez Ante.

He recalled that last month Governor Mauricio Vila delivered the second and third stages of the university that features state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, with an investment of 40.9 million pesos.

He stressed that they are already working on plans and projects so that next year there will be a new stage of construction.

“We are in the stage of the corresponding definitions, but a new building will probably come next year for the university, which according to the master plan would be our library, a continuation of the most recent edification,” he said.

He stressed that for a university, a library is absolutely vital, because it is the center of fundamental information for the continuity of the curriculum and training of students.

Although he did not give specific details of the project such as the resources to request, he announced that he will meet with the representatives of the Institute for the Development and Certification of the Physical Infrastructure of Yucatán (Idefey).

“The library will have an important turn towards technology for two reasons, the first one because we have to take care of a physical bibliographic collection, but we want to have digital access to all material, so surely it will have adequate spaces for the students to consult and have access to information using modern technological means,” Sanchez Ante concluded.
