110 young men showed their best weapons and were able to really impress scouts with their great talent, especially when it came to pitching.

There were 44 pitchers who came to the Leones de Yucatan 2019 Tryouts, and had an average speed between 81 and 86 miles per hour, per pitch, according to the measurements made by Raúl Ortega Rojas, talent seeker of the Yucatecan professional baseball team.

In addition to the prominent talent seeker, former Major League Baseball player Alfredo “Fello” Amezaga, who is visiting the city and works with Probeis, was also present.

Probeis is a recently created federal government special agency, which full name is “Office of the Presidency for the Promotion and Development of Baseball in Mexico” (Oficina de la Presidencia para la Promoción y Desarrollo del Béisbol en México). The office was created with the sole idea of seeking talent and promoting the sport of baseball nationwide, and the initiative came directly from president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who is a well known baseball fan.

The Tryouts included the participation of 44 pitchers, 19 catchers, 17 out fielders and 30 in field players. There were 19 players from the Interior of the State, three from other states and the rest from Mérida.
