The Castle of Chichén Itzá registered the early morning of Sunday an archaeoastronomical phenomenon of indescribable beauty: the descent of the Moon Serpent.
YUCATAN México – The snake was discovered on April 5, 1993 by Mexican archaeologist Victor Segovia Pinto and mathematician Eddie Salazar Gamboa.
The magic that was perceived in the place, thanks to the intense silver colored moonlight that bathed the archaeological zone of Chichén Itzá, increased with the arrival of the Mayan priest Tiburcio Can May; who at 0230 horas began a ritual to ask permission from “Uh” (the Moon), the aluxes (elves) and other deities of this millennial culture.
“They were so generous that they opened their arms to receive blessings and give us permission to see the descent of the Moon Serpent, but in return they asked us to make a call to humanity: to fight for peace,” The priest said with excitement.
Custodian José Keb Cetina also marveled. “In my 20 years working in this archaeological zone I have never seen such impressive moon, lighting this amazing phenomenon”.
For Eddie Salazar, who calculated the exact date and time of the phenomenon from 1990 to 2036, the invigorating presence of the Moon Serpent in the Castle fills him with happiness and joy.
“I feel immensely happy and with great satisfaction to prove that my calculations were accurate,” added the researcher of Mayan astronomy.
The phenomenon of the Lunar Serpent is recorded twice a year. “It can be from April to May or from September to October, as on this occasion that the Mayan goddess of the Moon, “Uh” came down to us and blessed the arrival of the rains and the good harvests,” he said.
How many other treasures are still there to be discovered? We don´t know, however, once again, Chichén Itzá shared one with the world.
