Mexican representative from the state of Guerrero, Marco Antonio Cabada Arias, presented an initiative to apply chemical castration to men between 18 and 65 who are recidivist in cases of rape or pedophilia.

Before the plenary session of the Guerrero Congress, the legislator from Morena explained that chemical castration is a medical process through which antiandrogen medications are injected that reduce the amount of testosterone, which reduces (or eliminates, depending on the dose) libido and sexual desire.

However, unlike surgical castration, which is the removal of the testicles, the duration of chemical castration depends on the doses supplied, since the effects are canceled when its application is suspended. On average the treatment takes between two and four weeks to take effect.

In order to substantiate his proposal, Cabada Arias presented data provided by Inegi, which highlights that in Mexico, the rape rate of girls and boys is 764 per 100,000. In addition, five thousand out of every one hundred thousand suffer some kind of sexual harrasment.

The states of Tlaxcala, Querétaro and Chihuahua are the ones with the highest incidence of sexual harrasment reports.
